Hands

First Thessalonians 5:18 proclaims, "In every thing give thanks." I find myself particularly thankful for my hands. Our hands are such an integral part of our lives. Even when our thoughts are occupied with other concerns, our hands assist us in life--opening doors, waving to acquaintances, brushing stray hair from our faces.

I have attempted to capture hands as they make up moments of our days. Hands are used in joy, disappointment, contentment, industry, idleness, pleasure--in every part of our lives. While they observe my work, I hope to have my audience consider how they spend their time: do they "fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way" (Pink Floyd), or do they express gratitude and "make [their] hands like those from Galilee" (Kenneth Cope)?
